Dear Dr Carol,
Thanks for your prompt reply, i just returned from the vet and 175$ and 3 xrays later we figured out that she has a small crack where her hind leg connects to her pelvis. The vet said that the joint looked ok and there wasnt anything to do about the pelvis but let it heal, i am planning on buying the paaws next payday. The question that i have for you now is, is it ok to give her glucosamine tablets that i have that i used to take. It is 2000mg and is glucosamine hydrochloride, she is 97 lbs and is 11months old

Hi Bgkykingpin
It sounds like your dog may have injured a ligament in her hind knee-also called the stifle joint. This causes no pain but they can't put their hind leg down. This is very common and requires rest and anti-inflammatories. It is always best to check with your vet. I am glad to talk to you and can help you.
Take a look at a product called PAAWS-it is a natural vitamin-mineral supplement that will speed up healing time, help relieve pain and discomfort and boost internal immunity.
These injuries take several months to heal and I do not recommend surgical repair.
Thank you

Good morning Dr. Carol
Last night (about 4 hours ago) my 85lb American Bully, who is 11 months old jumped out of the bed of my truck. I was going about 30mph and she hit the grass and tumbled several times. She got up on her own jogged back to the truck, she is now favoring her rear leg wont put any weight on it, she is eating drinking and urinating just fine. I called my vet this morning and he informed me that I had to pay what ever the cost of what he does as soon as the service is performed. She doesnt yelp or anything when i touch it, just whines when she gets up and down. Since im on fixed income is there anything that I can do to heal this on my own or to help it heal ?

types of surgery. It was most helpful to read other people’s narratives and questions on Dr. Carol’s site. I also found it helpful to compare my dog’s fracture with other images.

Hi Auriga,
I doubt anything serious occured based on your description but if your dog isn't putting weight on the paw within 48 hours I would check with your vet just to be sure.
I am glad to talk to you and am available toll free at 1-866-372-2765.
I carry a natural vitamin supplement called PAAWS, which would be wonderful for your dog, that you might take a look at.
Thank you

Good morning Dr. Carol,
My 5 yr. old, 150 lb. Newfoundland dog injured his front left paw yesterday. I let him and my female newf out in the morning to potty and she crashed into him, knocking him to the ground. He yelped in pain, and continued crying until I reached him. I think he sprained his paw, so after icing it, called the vet who suggested waiting for 24 hr.s to see if it improved. He ate normally yesterday and today, drinking normally, but still won't put weight on the front paw. No swelling, I can touch and massage it everywhere, I can't feel any breaks in the toes. I'm trying to keep him resting (not too hard for a newf), but I don't know what is normal for a sprain, and if I should go ahead and get it x-rayed. I checked his shoulder and elbow as well, can't see or feel anything abnormal there. Are there muscles or ligaments he could have torn? How long for a sprain to show improvement? He slept on his left side, so I don't think he's bruised, but I'm worried his off-gait will lead to further problems.
