Sampson
Dear Dr. Carol,

Here is a picture of my beautiful lhasa apso Samson.

When he was 13 months old, I found him wandering loose with no collar in a park. He was skin and bones, covered with poop, and we later found out he had heartworm disease. We almost lost him to the heartworm, but 13 years later he is still here with me.

He has recently been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and his arthritis, complicated by several attacks from a larger dog that injured his neck, has left him in daily pain. He takes so many pills I can barely get them all into him.

When he’s been lying down and stands up, he cries out in pain. Since I have started using PAAWS, I have been able to reduce his medications (and continue to do so) and as a result he has much more energy and barely ever cries out. I’m looking forward to seeing what further progress he makes as I continue with the product.

I will soon start my 12 year old shi tzu on PAAWS vitamins too. I’m very pleased with the product and with the personal assistance Dr. Carol has provided me on multiple occasions.

Wysong Pet Food Recall

Wysong Pet Food

Wysong announced that batched of their dry dog food manufactured during June and July of 2009 have been recalled due to mold. The announcement was made well after the costly, tainted pet food had been sitting on retail pet shelves and already sold to loving dog owners.

Three months after the fact, Wysong tells pet owners not to feed their dogs pet food from the tainted batches. Unfortunately they made virtually no attempt to help pet owners deal with the dogs that had already eaten their moldy food, needless to say, what owners should do to about the potential health consequences their pets may experience as a result of ingesting the tainted food.

Dogs with Cancer Become Human Guinea Pigs?

Dogs

Cancer is now the leading cause of death in dogs in the United States!

Certainly cures are needed and now some of these cancer ridden dogs have been enrolled in a new clinical trials program, in which they receive experimental chemotherapeutic drugs before they become available for people. Twelve trials are currently under way on groups of 15 to 60 dogs, and at this point some reports say that many of these canines have responded “favorably” to the drugs.

The trials are being run by The Comparative Oncology Trials Consortium which is located in Bethesda, Maryland, and was recently formed by the US National Cancer Institute.

The rationale for using dogs instead of mice and rats, is because cancer affects dogs very similar to the way it affects people. In addition, the different types of cancers, plaguing pets is also similar to the variety’s affecting humans. Therefore their rationale on using dogs, instead of rats and mice as “guinea pigs” for people gives researchers a better idea of how the drugs would eventually affect people.

Blindness Cured with a Single Shot!

dog w doggles or eye glasses

Imagine being blind and receiving a single injection that restores your vision!

This sounds too good to be true but is a new reality that holds tremendous hope fpr people and pets in the future.

Normally, most drugs are unable to reach the retina because of a natural impermeable lining, called the blood-retina barrier, that prevents most chemicals from reaching the sensitive cells of the retina and as such is a built in protective measure for the eye.

A research team from Dublin, Ireland, has successfully restored the vision of mice by temporarily weakening this retinal lining to let drug molecules injected into the blood slip through the barrier and reach the retina.

A technique called RNA interference (RNAi) was used to block the production of claudin-5, a protein that normally helps make the blood-retina barrier impermeable. This method involves gene therapy using a modified virus that makes the RNA only in the presence of an tetracycline derived antibiotic called doxycycline.

Pets May Benefit From Nobel Prize Aging Process Discovery

Nobel coin

The Nobel prize for medicine was awarded to three American scientists for their discovery of how chromosomes are protected by telomeres and the enzyme telomerase, that play a key role in the aging process as well as cancer, in people and pets.
The three American Laureates were awarded the Nobel Prize of $1.42 million dollars.

These discoveries will further the understanding of the aging process, shed light on disease mechanisms, and in time help to stimulate the development of potential new human and pet therapies.

Elizabeth H. Blackburn Elizabeth Blackburn from the University of California at San Francisco was one member of the Nobel Laureate team.

The telomerase enzyme also plays a key role in allowing tumor cells to multiply uncontrolled and develop into cancer. As such this represents a major new area of focus for new drug research. For example, vaccines that target telomerase are currently in clinical trials for the treatment of lung and prostate cancer.

This discovery is of major significance and will become the new foundation for future research on cancer, stem cells and the aging process itself. This research is as applicable to pets as it is for people.

Jack SzostakJack Szostak of the Harvard Medical School in Massachusetts was the second recipient.

Medicine is traditionally the first of the Nobel Prizes awarded each year. The prizes for achievement in science, literature and peace were initially awarded in 1901 accordance with the will of dynamite inventor and businessman, Alfred Nobel.

racing greyhound

Dear Dr. Carol,

We want to thank you for the introduction to your amazing Paaws vitamins that we have been giving to Windy Wag. Windy Wag is a retired racing greyhound that we rescued on Christmas day of 2003. We started her on them approximately 3 months ago and the results have been excellent.

windy wag

First of all, Windy Wag has had a problem with “bunny hopping” on one of her rear legs due to severe arthritis for years. She just turned 11 years old in September of 2009. We introduced the Paaws vitamins to her food by crumbling them over her food and adding a little warm water then mixing them up with a spoon. She loves the tasteand can’t wait to eat her breakfast and dinner. She licks the bowl clean after each meal.

Paaws Vitamins

We noticed a few very positive changes after a couple of weeks, one being that the “bunny hopping” almost disappeared and within 4 weeks was so rare that we could not believe how effective the Paaws vitamins were!!

Senior Dog Dementia Responds to Natural Pet Product

Marybeth & Emily

Our 14 year old dalmation, Emily used to sleep most of the day and she spent alot of time just sitting there staring at the wall. We tried some meds from the vet but they didn’t seem to change her behavior at all. I finally found the Paaws vitamins and decided to give them a try.

Its been 3 weeks and Emily’s energy level has skyrocketed! She RUNS everywhere she goes. She even comes with us when we go out to feed our horses in the afternoons, like she did when she was younger!

I’m so pleased I am starting my other older dog on these Paaws vitamins too; shes pretty weak. I am hoping these pills will help her.

Rebecca & Annie

Dear Dr. Carol,

I am really loving the Paaws. I had my dog on the Paaws vitamins when she was younger and them stopped for some reason. A couple weeks ago, Annie was staying at a friends house while we were out of town and she got lost. They found her a day later thanks to her micro-chip and we got our dog back but her behavior was odd and she was not acting like herself.

So I thought about Paaws and gave the vitamins another try.

Paaws was the answer as she is back to old herself again!!

Thank you for making such a great product,

Dr Carol, DVM

Hi Dr. Carol,

I forgot to tell you when I took Meeka in for her (Lepto) shot, our vet could not get over how healthy Meeka looked and was surprised at how well she is doing. She did glow. I had to write down all the medications and foods I give her to keep her well and glowing. Who knows maybe you will have another veterinarian recommending Paaws.

I’m sure after our last visit, Dr. Cox has seen the difference in Meeka.
She has actually gained a couple pounds. She has no more loose stool and now she is energetic and not moping around the house. We started doing some agility with her and she seems to enjoy it with no more stomach upsets. I’d say her new home-made diet, along with your Paaws vitamins and probiotics have finally solved her stomach and digestion issues.

Thank you for your wonderful advice and all the time you spent helping me with her.

Ever since scientists unraveled the dogs DNA or genetic code and found it to be quite similar to human DNA, research into medical conditions and treatments for people and pets has been on the rise.
Recent results from a 2008 survey revealed that the leading medical conditions affecting people, mimic the top conditions plaguing pets.

Allergies, for example rank number one for people and pets. In the past, many mistakenly considered allergies to be exclusive to humans. The signs of an allergy differ between the two species.

Allergic people primarily sneeze and may also get runny eyes whereas itching is usually the primary sign of allergies in pets and some may also be affected with runny eyes. The end result for both is the same and requires treatment for relief.

itching, allergic cat
1. Allergies topped the list. In 2008, there were 63,761 claims made for pet skin allergies. Allergic reactions in pets can result from various agents that are called allergens, including flea saliva, pollen, grasses and/or various foods.

Treatment options for pets are similar in principle to those for people. It involves controlling the pet’s exposure to allergens,in the environment and/or to certain foods, stopping the itching, sneezing and/or runny eyes and boosting internal immunity.
